The Idea

We didn’t want just a hardware or software project — we wanted to solve something real. After a rigorous Problem Definition and Elimination process, we started targeting common household problems and settled on food waste in fridges. Through a process of elimination and idea merging, we developed ShelfSync: a smart tracking system that blends sensors and software into a seamless solution for monitoring, managing, and maintaining the freshness of perishable goods in your fridge.

What is ShelfSync?

A smart fridge system that uses barcode scanning, weight sensors, and a web-based UI to help users track:

• What’s in the fridge
• How much is left
• When it will expire

How does ShelfSync work?

1. Step 1: User buys an item
2. Step 2: Scans its barcode at the fridge
3. Step 3: Inputs expiry date via the web UI
4. Step 4: Weight sensors log its placement/removal
5. Step 5: Server tracks location, weight, and expiration
6. Step 6: User gets notified before the product expires

What's the tech?

Hardware:

• Barcode scanner
• Weight sensors (with Arduino)
• Raspberry Pi for coordination

Software:

• Web server for data syncing and logic
• Responsive user interface (add/view items)
• Alerts for expiry and usage
